Title: Computational musculoskeletal biomechanics and its applications
Speaker: Dr. Moon Ki Jung (Research Associate, Neuromechanics and Rehabilitation Technology, Imperial College London, UK)
Abstract: Computational musculoskeletal modelling and simulation have been playing an important role in solving complex problems of biomechanics. Dynamic simulation of movement provides a framework to help the understanding of the principles that govern the coordination of muscles during human movements. Computational models and simulations based on experiments are used to generate the muscle-tendon dynamics, musculoskeletal geometry, and multibody dynamics transformations between a simulated neural control and a simulated movement. Simulations can complement experiments and give estimates of generally immeasurable variables such as muscle and joint forces. And these important variables can provide insights into both muscle function and human movement control. The biggest potential of simulations is to perform 'what-if' scenarios to test hypotheses. In this talk, the speaker will introduce the brief concept of computational musculoskeletal modelling and simulations, and he will also present several applications from different fields.
